Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah

Sayyiduna Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his companions: "What do you say about adultery?" They said: Allah and His Messenger have declared it forbidden, and it will remain forbidden until the Day of Resurrection. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man's sin of committing adultery with ten women is less than the sin of committing adultery with the wife of his neighbor." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked them about theft; they gave the same answer as they had given about adultery. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man's sin of stealing from ten houses is less than the sin of stealing from the house of his neighbor."
