The Prophet tied two stones to his stomach due to hunger
Hadith 372
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قَالَ: «شَكَوْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجُوعَ وَرَفَعْنَا عَنْ بُطُونِنَا عَنْ حَجَرٍ حَجَرٍ، فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَطْنِهِ عَنْ حَجَرَيْنِ» قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: " هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ: وَرَفَعْنَا عَنْ بُطُونِنَا عَنْ حَجَرٍ حَجَرٍ، كَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ يَشُدُّ فِي بَطْنِهِ الْحَجَرَ مِنَ الْجُهْدِ وَالضَّعْفِ الَّذِي بِهِ مِنَ الْجُوعِ "
Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the severity of hunger and showed him the stones tied to our bellies, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) showed us two stones tied to his own belly. Imam Abu Isa al-Tirmidhi says: This hadith is gharib through the narration of Abu Talhah; we know it only through this chain, and the meaning of «ورفعنا عن بطوننا حجرا» is that "those people, due to hardship and weakness caused by hunger, used to tie stones to their bellies."
