Four rak‘ahs after sun’s zenith
Hadith 292
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ، عَنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَهْمِ بْنِ مِنْجَابٍ، عَنْ قَرْثَعٍ الضَّبِّيِّ، أَوْ عَنْ قَزَعَةَ، عَنْ قَرْثَعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُدْمِنُ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّكَ تُدْمِنُ هَذِهِ الْأَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ تُفْتَحُ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ الشَّمْسِ فَلَا تُرْتَجُ حَتَّى تُصَلَّى الظُّهْرُ، فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يَصْعَدَ لِي فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ خَيْرٌ» قُلْتُ: أَفِي كُلِّهِنَّ قِرَاءَةٌ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» . قُلْتُ: هَلْ فِيهِنَّ تَسْلِيمٌ فَاصِلٌ؟ قَالَ: «لَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would always perform four rak‘ahs at the time when the sun declined. So I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Do you always perform these four rak‘ahs at the time when the sun declines? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “At the time when the sun declines, the gates of the heavens are opened, and they are not closed until the Zuhr prayer is completed. So I wish that a good deed of mine ascends at that time.” I asked: Is there recitation in all these rak‘ahs? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “Yes!” I asked: Is there a separation with salam between them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “No.”
Hadith 293
أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدَةُ، عَنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ سَهْمِ بْنِ مِنْجَابٍ، عَنْ قَزَعَةَ، عَنْ قَرْثَعٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
Qurtha’ah narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who narrated from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a narration similar to the one mentioned above.
