Hadith 286
Asim bin Damrah says: We asked Sayyiduna Ali al-Murtaza (may Allah be pleased with him) about the daytime prayers of Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), so he replied: You do not have the strength for it. We said: Whoever among us has the strength for it will perform it (please tell us). Thus, Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the sun in the east was as it is in the west at the time of Asr, Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform two rak‘ahs of prayer, and when the sun in the east was as it is in the west at the time of Zuhr, he would perform four rak‘ahs, and likewise, before Asr, he would perform four rak‘ahs, separating every two rak‘ahs with salutations upon the close angels, the prophets, their followers among the believers, and the general Muslims.
