Hadith 245
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah on the occasion of ‘Umrah al-Qada, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) was walking ahead of him, reciting these verses: “O sons of the disbelievers! Clear the way for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Today, according to the command of the Qur’an, we will strike you with such a blow that your heads will be separated from your bodies, and that blow will make a friend forget his friend.” Sayyiduna ‘Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him): O Ibn Rawahah! You are reciting poetry ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and in the sanctuary of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O ‘Umar! Leave him. These verses are falling upon those disbelievers more swiftly and severely than arrows.”
