Hadith 238
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that there was a man from the countryside whose name was Zahir. Whenever he came to serve the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would present some gift from the countryside to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then, when he intended to leave, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would give him some gift in return. On one occasion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Zahir is our villager and we are his townspeople.” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved this man, and he was somewhat unattractive in appearance. One day, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him while he was selling some of his goods. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came from behind and placed his hands over his eyes and embraced him so that he could not see who it was. He began to say: “Who is this? Let me go.” When he recognized the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he pressed his back against the blessed chest of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Who will buy this slave?” He said: “O Messenger of Allah! You will find me a worthless bargain.” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “But you are not worthless in the sight of Allah.” Or he said: “You are very valuable in the sight of Allah.”
