Hadith 224
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), who says: I asked my maternal uncle Hind bin Abi Hala, who used to frequently describe the noble qualities of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), to tell me about the manner of the speech of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was often in a state of sadness and grief, always thoughtful, and comfort was not available to him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would mostly remain silent and would not speak without necessity. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin and end his speech with the name of Allah Almighty. When he spoke, he used concise and comprehensive words. His speech was extremely clear and evident, not more than necessary, nor was there any deficiency in conveying the intended meaning. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was neither harsh nor weak and insignificant. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would greatly honor a blessing, even if it was little, and would not criticize anything from it. Thus, he would not criticize food items nor excessively praise them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would not become angry due to any worldly matter, nor was there anything in worldly affairs that would make him angry. When someone transgressed the truth, nothing could withstand his anger until he took retribution for it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) never became angry for his own sake nor took revenge for himself. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed towards something, he would do so with his entire blessed hand. When he was amazed at something, he would turn his blessed palm over. And when he spoke, he would join his hands, placing the palm of his right hand on the inner part of the thumb of his left hand. When he was displeased with someone, he would turn his noble face away from him, and when he was pleased, he would lower his gaze. The utmost of his laughter was only a smile, and through it, his blessed teeth would appear white and shining like hailstones.
