Cutting roasted meat with a knife
Hadith 165
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ أَبِي صَخْرَةَ جَامِعِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ: ضِفْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ فَأُتِيَ بِجَنْبٍ مَشْوِيٍّ، ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الشَّفْرَةَ فَجَعَلَ يَحُزُّ، فَحَزَّ لِي بِهَا مِنْهُ قَالَ: فَجَاءَ بِلَالٌ يُؤْذِنُهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَأَلْقَى الشَّفْرَةَ فَقَالَ: «مَا لَهُ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاهُ؟» . قَالَ: وَكَانَ شَارِبُهُ قَدْ وَفَى، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «أَقُصُّهُ لَكَ عَلَى سِوَاكٍ» أَوْ «قُصُّهُ عَلَى سِوَاكٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: One night I went as a guest with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a roasted side of meat was presented. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took a knife and began to cut from it, and he also cut some (meat) for me. (Meanwhile) suddenly Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to inform about the prayer, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw down the knife and then said: “What has happened to him, may his hands be soiled with dust?” The narrator said that my mustache had grown long, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Shall I not trim them for you by placing a miswak underneath?” or he said: “Trim them by placing a miswak underneath.”
