Supplication for Wearing New Clothes
Hadith 61
حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ إِيَاسٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا اسْتَجَدَّ ثَوْبًا سَمَّاهُ بِاسْمِهِ عِمَامَةً أَوْ قَمِيصًا أَوْ رِدَاءً، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا كَسَوْتَنِيهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهُ وَخَيْرَ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ» .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) wore a new garment, he would name it by its name, such as turban, shirt, or cloak, then he would recite (this supplication): «اللهم لك الحمد كما كسوتنيه، اسألك خيره وخير ما صنع له، وأعوذ بك من شره وشر ما صنع له» "O Allah! All praise is for You, as You have clothed me with this. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made."
Hadith 62
حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُونُسَ الْكُوفِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ، عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
Similarly, another chain of narration also comes, that is, Hisham bin Yunus, from Qasim bin Malik Mazni, from Jariri, from Abu Nadrah, from our master Abu Sa'id Khudri, who narrates this same narration.
