باب ما جاء فى شعر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلمChapter: What has been reported concerning the hair of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
He (peace be upon him) Did Not Initially Part His Hair
Hadith 30
حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : «أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُسْدِلُ شَعْرَهُ، وَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ يَفْرِقُونَ رُءُوسَهُمْ، وَكَانَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ يُسْدِلُونَ رُءُوسَهُمْ، وَكَانَ يُحِبُّ مُوَافَقَةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فِيمَا لَمْ يُؤْمَرْ فِيهِ بِشَيْءٍ، ثُمَّ فَرَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأْسَهُ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to let his hair hang down, and the polytheists used to part their hair, while the People of the Book used to let their hair hang down. Since, in matters where he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not given any command, he (peace and blessings be upon him) preferred to conform to the People of the Book. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also started parting his hair.
Hadith 31
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ نَافِعٍ الْمَكِّيِّ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، قَالَتْ: «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَا ضَفَائِرَ أَرْبَعٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), his hair was divided into four locks.
