Sealed letters sent to various kings
Hadith 91
حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ أَبُو عَمْرٍو قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَتَبَ إِلَى كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرَ وَالنَّجَاشِيِّ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: إِنَّهُمْ لَا يَقْبَلُونَ كِتَابًا إِلَّا بِخَاتَمٍ فَصَاغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا حَلْقَتُهُ فِضَّةٌ، وَنُقِشَ فِيهِ: مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote letters to Kisra (the king of Persia), Caesar (the king of Rome), and Najashi (the king of Abyssinia), it was said (by the noble Companions, may Allah be pleased with them) that surely those people do not accept a letter without a seal. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a ring made, the circle of which was of silver, and «مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُولُ اللَّهِ» was engraved on it.
