It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out (from his blessed residence) in such a state that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was leaning on Sayyiduna Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him). You (peace and blessings be upon him) were wearing a Qatari cloth, which you had wrapped around yourself, and you (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. ‘Abd bin Humaid says that Muhammad bin Fadl said: When Yahya bin Ma‘in came and sat with me, the very first thing he asked me about was this hadith. I began to narrate the hadith in such a way that Hammad bin Salamah narrated it to me. So Yahya bin Ma‘in said: If you had read this hadith from your book, it would have been better. I (Muhammad bin Fadl) got up to bring the book, but he (Yahya bin Ma‘in) held onto my garment and said: Dictate it to me, I fear that I may not meet you again. (Muhammad bin Fadl) said: I dictated it to him from memory, then I brought the book and read out this hadith to him.
