The Prophet (peace be upon him) Did Not Use Dye
Hadith 37
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: هَلْ خَضَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: «لَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ شَيْبًا فِي صُدْغَيْهِ» وَلَكِنْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، خَضَبَ بِالْحِنَّاءِ وَالْكَتَمِ "
It is narrated from Imam Qatadah, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: I asked Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, "Did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, dye (his white hair)?" So Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, replied: "The blessed hair of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not reach that state; only a few hairs at his temples had turned white. Yes, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, dyed (his hair) with henna and katam."
