Hadith 312
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَاصِمَ بْنَ حُمَيْدٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَوْفَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ: كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً فَاسْتَاكَ ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي، فَقُمْتُ مَعَهُ فَبَدَأَ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ الْبَقَرَةَ فَلَا يَمُرُّ بِآيَةِ رَحْمَةٍ إِلَّا وَقَفَ فَسَأَلَ، وَلَا يَمُرُّ بِآيَةِ عَذَابٍ إِلَّا وَقَفَ فَتَعَوَّذَ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ فَمَكَثَ رَاكِعًا بِقَدْرِ قِيَامِهِ، وَيَقُولُ فِي رُكُوعِهِ: «سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَبَرُوتِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ» ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ بِقَدْرِ رُكُوعِهِ، وَيَقُولُ فِي سُجُودِهِ: «سُبْحَانَ ذِي الْجَبَرُوتِ وَالْمَلَكُوتِ وَالْكِبْرِيَاءِ وَالْعَظَمَةِ» ثُمَّ قَرَأَ آلَ عِمْرَانَ ثُمَّ سُورَةً سُورَةً يَفْعَلُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ
Asim bin Humaid reports that I heard Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I spent one night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He used the miswak, performed ablution, and then stood up to pray. I also stood up with him. At the beginning, he recited Surah al-Baqarah. Whenever he passed by a verse of mercy, he would pause and ask Allah for it, and whenever he passed by a verse of punishment, he would pause and seek Allah’s protection from it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed in ruku‘, and remained in ruku‘ for as long as he had stood, and in ruku‘ he would recite this supplication: «سبحان ذي الجبروت والملكوت والكبرياء والعظمة», “Glory be to Allah, the Possessor of Might, Dominion, Majesty, and Greatness.” Then he would prostrate for as long as he had bowed, and in prostration he would recite the same supplication: «سبحان ذي الجبروت والملكوت والكبرياء والعظمة». Then in the (second rak‘ah) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Aal ‘Imran, then recited one surah after another, and did the same as he had done in the first rak‘ah.
