Praying night prayer sitting
Hadith 278
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ: «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي جَالِسًا فَيَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ، فَإِذَا بَقِيَ مِنْ قِرَاءَتِهِ قَدْرُ مَا يَكُونُ ثَلَاثِينَ أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ آيَةً، قَامَ فَقَرَأَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ وَسَجَدَ، ثُمَّ صَنَعَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ»
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform prayer sitting, he would also recite (Qur'an) while sitting. Then, when about thirty or forty verses remained from the recitation, he would stand up and recite the remainder while standing, then perform bowing (ruku') and prostration (sajda). He would perform the second rak'ah in the same manner as the first rak'ah.
