Hadith 276

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: «صَلَّيْتُ لَيْلَةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ قَائِمًا حَتَّى هَمَمْتُ بِأَمْرِ سُوءٍ» قِيلَ لَهُ: وَمَا هَمَمْتَ بِهِ؟ قَالَ: «هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَقْعُدَ وَأَدَعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I prayed one night with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) stood for a very long time until I intended to do something bad. He was asked: What bad did you intend? He replied: I intended to sit down and leave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) standing.
