Saeed bin Abi Sa'di Maqbari narrates from Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman, who reported that he asked Umm al-Mu'mineen, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), about the manner of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) (night) prayer in Ramadan. She replied: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not pray more than eleven rak'ahs in Ramadan or outside of Ramadan. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray four rak'ahs, and do not ask about their beauty and length (i.e., he performed them in a very good manner and with lengthy recitation), then he would pray three rak'ahs (witr). Umm al-Mu'mineen, Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said: I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Do you sleep before praying witr? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "O Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep."
