Sayyiduna Bara’ bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man asked him: O Abu ‘Amarah! Did you people run away leaving the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (on the day of Hunayn)? He replied: No, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not retreat; rather, some hasty people turned away because of the archery of the tribe of Hawazin, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was mounted on his mule, whose reins were held by Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith bin ‘Abd al-Muttalib. At that time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was proclaiming loudly: “I am the Prophet of Allah, there is no lie in this. I am the son of ‘Abd al-Muttalib.”
