بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي جِلْسَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَChapter: What has been reported concerning the sitting of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
Leaning on a cushion is not arrogance
Hadith 133
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ» قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: «لَمْ يَذْكُرْ وَكِيعٌ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ، وَهَكَذَا رَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنِ إِسْرَائِيلَ نَحْوَ رِوَايَةِ وَكِيعٍ، وَلَا نَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا رَوَى فِيهِ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ إِلَّا مَا رَوَاهُ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنِ إِسْرَائِيلَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reclining on a cushion. Imam Abu Isa Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: In this narration, Waki‘ did not mention the word «علي يسارہ», and in the same way, many narrators have narrated this hadith from Isra’il as Waki‘ did, and to our knowledge, no one except Ishaq bin Mansur has narrated the word «علي يسارہ» from Isra’il in this hadith.
