It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man making intention for Hajj with these words: "O Allah, I am present on behalf of Shubrumah." The Prophet asked: "Who is Shubrumah?" He replied: "He is my brother or a close relative." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you performed Hajj on your own behalf?" He said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then perform this Hajj on your own behalf, then perform it on behalf of Shubrumah." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that in this narration it is stated that whoever calls the Talbiyah on behalf of another person and has not performed Hajj for himself, he should perform that Hajj on his own behalf.
