Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) told me, she said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "O Aisha, if your people had not only recently left ignorance and become Muslim, I would have demolished the Sacred House and included in it that part of Hatim which they had left out, because their funds had run short and so they could not build it. I would have made two doors for the Sacred House, one on the east side and one on the west side, and I would have built it level with the ground. And I would have built it upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." The narrator says that because of this statement of the Prophet, Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) (during his rule) demolished the Sacred House and rebuilt it upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Yazid bin Roman says that when Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both) demolished and rebuilt the Sacred House, I was present with him. They uncovered the foundations of the Sacred House, and they were like the humps of Bactrian camels. Jarir says that I said to Yazid bin Roman, while I was performing Tawaf with him at that time, "Show me the part of Hatim which the Quraysh had left out during the construction of the Sacred House." He said, "I will show you that part right now." When he reached near that part, he said, "This is the place." Jarir says that I measured it, and it was about six cubits in length.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her. Then she narrated the complete hadith. Yazid says that when Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) demolished the Sacred House (Ka'bah), I was also present there. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the narration of Yazid bin Harun is evidence that Yazid bin Roman heard this hadith from both Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair and Urwah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with them both).

Sayyiduna Abu Tufail (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the days of ignorance, the Sacred House (Baytullah) was constructed purely with stones, and no mortar, etc., was used in it. Its height was such that a young goat could leap over it. Then he narrated the complete hadith regarding the construction of the Sacred Ka'bah. And he said that when the army of Husayn bin Numayr attacked and set fire to the Sacred House during the rule of Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Ibn Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed me that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your people had not recently come out of disbelief, I would have demolished the Sacred Ka'bah (and included Hatim in the new construction), because the Quraysh had little expenditure and wood, so they excluded a seven-hand span portion of Hatim from the construction." Ibn Abi Mulaykah says that it is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then a long story was narrated.

Abdullah bin Ubaid bin Umair narrates that during the reign of Abdul Malik bin Marwan, he appeared before Harith bin Abdullah as a messenger. Abdul Malik said, "I do not think that Abu Khubaib Abdullah bin Zubair heard that hadith from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) which he claims to have heard." Harith said, "Why not? I too have heard that hadith from our mother." He asked, "What did you hear Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) say?" He replied, "Our mother said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, your people have reduced the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah) (because they had run out of lawful wealth to spend), and if these people had not just recently left polytheism and become Muslims, I would have rebuilt the part they left out. Therefore, if after me your people intend to include that part into the foundations of the Sacred House, then come, I will show you the place which they excluded from the House.' So he showed our mother approximately seven handspans of space." This narration is from Abdullah bin Ubaid. He narrated the complete story.
