(375) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الِاسْمَ قَدْ يُنْفَى عَنِ الشَّيْءِ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ وَاجِبًا، وَإِنْ كَانَ الْفِعْلُ مُبَاحًا.
Evidence that a name can be denied for something if it is not obligatory, even if the action is allowed.
Hadith 2989
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ ، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَخْبَرَنَا , وَقَالَ الآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : " لَيْسَ الْمُحَصَّبُ بِشَيْءٍ ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ مَنْزِلٌ نَزَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : قَوْلُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : لَيْسَ الْمُحَصَّبُ بِشَيْءٍ أَرَادَ لَيْسَ بِشَيْءٍ يَجِبُ عَلَى النَّاسِ نُزُولُهُ ، فَنَفي اسْمَ الشَّيْءِ عَنْهُ عَلَى الْمَعْنَى الَّذِي تَرْجَمْتُ الْبَابَ إِذِ الْعِلْمُ مُحِيطٌ أَنَّ نُزُولَ الْمُحَصَّبِ فِعْلٌ ، وَاسْمُ الشَّيْءِ وَاقِعٌ عَلَى الْفِعْلِ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ الْفِعْلُ مُبَاحًا ، وَلا وَاجِبًا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that staying in the valley of Muhassab is not something necessary. Rather, it is just a coincidental place where the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stayed. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the meaning of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas’s (may Allah be pleased with both of them) statement is that staying in the valley of Muhassab is not obligatory upon people. In this way, he has negated something, even though it is permissible, as I have mentioned in the title of this chapter, because it is certain that staying in the valley of Muhassab is an action, and the name of the valley, Muhassab, is applied to this action (which has been negated, that Muhassab is not something). Even though this action is permissible, it is not obligatory.
