Hadith 2912
Hazrat Ubaid bin Firoz narrates that I asked Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) to tell me about those animals whose sacrifice the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked or forbade. Sayyiduna Bara’ (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his blessed hand and said, and my hand is smaller and insignificant compared to the blessed hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Four types of animals are not permissible for sacrifice: the cross-eyed animal whose defect is obvious, the sick animal whose illness is apparent, the lame animal whose lameness is clear, and such an old animal that due to weakness its bones have no marrow left. Sayyiduna Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said that I also find it undesirable for sacrifice if the animal has a defect in its ear or horn (i.e., if the ear is cut or the horn is broken). He (may Allah be pleased with him) said that if you dislike an animal, then leave it, but do not forbid others from sacrificing it.
