Hadith 2726
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you not seen the condition of your people? When they rebuilt the House of Allah, they reduced it from the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says, I asked, "Why do you not rebuild it upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If your people had not only recently come out of disbelief and become Muslim (I would surely have rebuilt it upon the foundations of Ibrahim, peace be upon him)."
The narrator says that then Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that indeed Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) must have heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and for this reason, in my opinion, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform Istilam (touching or kissing) of the two corners on the side of Hatim, only because the Sacred House was not completely built upon the foundations of Ibrahim (peace be upon him), (and these two corners are not upon those foundations)."
