Abdullah bin Haneen narrates that Sayyiduna Miswar bin Makhramah and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) had a disagreement at the place of ‘Arj regarding whether a person in the state of Ihram can wash his head. On one occasion, the narrator said that there was a disagreement about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) washing his blessed head while in the state of Ihram. So they sent me to ask Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) about this issue. I went to him at the place of ‘Arj and found him bathing between two wooden planks of a well. I greeted him with Salam. When he saw me, he wrapped a cloth around his chest until I could see his chest. I said, “Your nephew, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), has sent me to you to ask how you saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) washing his blessed head while in the state of Ihram.” So he called for a bucket of water, poured some water from it, and let it flow over his head. Then he rubbed his hands over the front and back of his head. And he said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) doing it like this.” Abdullah bin Haneen says that when I informed Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Miswar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), “After this, I will never argue or dispute with you about any issue.”
