(38) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا أَبَاحَ أَنْ لَا يَقْتَصِرَ عَنْ حَاجَةٍ إِذَا رَكِبَ الدَّوَابَّ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يُجَاوِزَ السَّائِرُ الْمَنَازِلَ، إِذَا كَانَتِ الْأَرْضُ مُخْصِبَةً،
38 Subchapter: Evidence that the Prophet allowed not limiting needs when riding, as long as not exceeding the journey’s stops and the land is fertile
Hadith Q2548
وَالْأَمْرِ بِإِمْكَانِ الرِّكَابِ عَنِ الرَّعْيِ فِي الْخِصْبِ إِنْ صَحَّ الْخَبَرُ؛ فَإِنَّ فِي الْقَلْبِ مِنْ سَمَاعِ الْحَسَنِ مِنْ جَابِرٍ
The rider is instructed to allow the mount to graze in a green area, provided that this hadith is authentic. Because my heart is not satisfied regarding Imam Hasan al-Basri hearing from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him).
Hadith 2548
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ زُهَيْرِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ سَالِمٌ : سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنَا جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ ، فَأَمْكِنُوا الرِّكَابَ مِنْ أَسْنَانِهَا ، وَلا تَتَجَاوَزُوا الْمَنَازِلَ ، وَإِذَا سَافَرْتُمْ فِي الْجَدْبِ ، فَانْجُوا وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالدُّلْجَةِ ، فَإِنَّ الأَرْضَ تُطْوَى بِاللَّيْلِ ، وَإِذَا تَوَغَّلَتْكُمُ الْغِيلانُ ، فَبَادِرُوا بِالصَّلاةِ ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْمَعْرَسَ عَلَى جَوَادِ الطَّرِيقِ ، وَالصَّلاةَ عَلَيْهَا ، فَإِنَّهَا مَأْوَى الْحَيَّاتِ وَالسِّبَاعِ ، وَقَضَاءِ الْحَاجَةِ عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهَا الْمَلاعِنُ "
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you travel through lush and green areas, give your mounts the opportunity to graze and do not pass by the stopping places without halting (so that the animals may rest and drink water, etc.). And when you travel through dry areas, pass quickly and travel at night, because more distance is covered at night. And when groups of devils appear before you in changing forms, then quickly perform prayer. (And at night) never rest or pray on the main roads, because the main roads are the refuge of snakes and wild beasts. And do not relieve yourselves on such roads either, because this act becomes a cause of people's curse."
Hadith 2549
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هِشَامٍ الرِّفَاعِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَمَانٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كَانَتِ الأَرْضُ مُخْصِبَةً ، فَأَمْكِنُوا الرِّكَابَ ، وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمَنَازِلِ ، وَإِذَا كَانَتْ مُجْدِبَةً ، فَاسْتَنْجُوا عَلَيْهَا وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالدُّلْجَةِ ، فَإِنَّ الأَرْضَ تُطْوَى بِاللَّيْلِ ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَقَوَارِعَ الطَّرِيقَ ؛ فَإِنَّهُ مَأْوَى الْحَيَّاتِ وَالسِّبَاعِ ، وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْغِيلانَ ، فَأَذِّنُوا " ، سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ يَحْيَى ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُنْكِرُ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْحَسَنَ سَمِعَ مِنْ جَابِرٍ
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you come to a green area, give your riding animals a chance to graze, and be sure to stop at designated resting places. And if you come to a barren area, then pass through it quickly. And travel at night, for indeed, at night the earth is folded up (the journey is covered more quickly). And do not sit in the middle of the roads, for they are the refuge of snakes and wild beasts at night. And when you see a group of devils, then call the Adhan." Imam Muhammad bin Yahya narrates that Imam Ali bin Abdullah used to deny that Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) heard this narration from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him).
