(35) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الْإِحْسَانِ إِلَى الدَّوَابِّ الْمَرْكُوبَةِ فِي الْعَلَفِ وَالسَّقْيِ، وَكَرَاهِيَةِ إِجَاعَتِهَا وَإِعْطَاشِهَا وَرُكُوبِهَا وَالسَّيْرِ عَلَيْهَا جِيَاعًا عِطَاشًا
35 Subchapter: Recommending kindness to riding animals in feeding and watering, and disliking to starve or overwork them
Hadith 2545
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّفَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْكِينٌ الْحَذَّاءُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُهَاجِرِ ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ حَنْظَلَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّ بِبَعِيرٍ قَدْ لَحِقَ ظَهْرُهُ بِبَطْنِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِي هَذِهِ الْبَهَائِمِ الْمُعْجَمَةِ ، ارْكَبُوهَا صَالِحَةً ، وَكُلُوهَا صَالِحَةً "
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a camel whose back was sticking to its belly (due to hunger). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah regarding these voiceless animals. Ride them when they are healthy, and eat them (by slaughtering) when they are in a sound condition."
