Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, whatever I leave behind, my heirs will not distribute it. Whatever wealth we (the Prophets) leave behind is charity." This charity was first in the possession of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Then Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) gained control over it. There was a long dispute between these two gentlemen regarding it. (Then both wanted to distribute it), but Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to distribute this wealth between the two. Until Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) withdrew from this wealth and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gained control over it. Then it remained under the management of Sayyiduna Ali's son, Sayyiduna Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him). Then it came under the supervision of Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both). After them, it was managed by their sons, Ali bin Husayn and Hasan bin Husayn, who managed it alternately. Then it came under the supervision of Hazrat Zaid bin Hasan. Whereas it is the true charity of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 2489
Lady Juwayriya (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave behind at the time of his death any dinar, dirham, slave, or slave-girl, except for his mule and his weapons, and a piece of land which he had given as charity.
