(157) بَابُ ذِكْرِ تَضْعِيفِ صَدَقَةِ الْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى زَوْجِهَا وَعَلَى مَا فِي حِجْرِهَا عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ عَلَى غَيْرِهِمْ.
157 Subchapter: Charity to one’s husband and dependents is multiplied over charity to others
Hadith 2463
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ امْرَأَةِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَتْ : أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالصَّدَقَةِ ، وَقَالَ : " تَصَدَّقْنَ يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ ، وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ " ، قَالَتْ : وَكُنْتُ أَعُولُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ ، وَبَنَاتِي فِي حِجْرِي ، فَقُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ : إِيتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلْهُ ، هَلْ تُجْزِئُ ذَلِكَ عَلَى أَنْ أُوجِبَهُ عَنْكُمْ مَعَ الصَّدَقَةِ ؟ قَالَ : لا بَلْ آتِيهِ ، فَسَلِيهِ ، قَالَتْ : فَأَتَيْتُهُ ، فَجَلَسْتُ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ ، وَكَانَتْ قَدْ أُلْقِيَتْ عَلَيْهِ الْمَهَابَةُ ، فَوَجَدْتُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ حَاجَتُهَا مِثْلُ حَاجَتِي ، فَخَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا بِلالٌ ، فَقُلْنَا : سَلْهُ ، وَلا تُحَدِّثْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ نَحْنُ ، فَقَالَ : امْرَأَتَانِ تَعُولانِ أَزْوَاجَهُمَا وَيَتَامَى فِي حُجُورِهِمَا ، أَتُجْزِئُ ذَلِكَ عَنْهُمَا مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ : مَنْ هُمَا ؟ قَالَ : زَيْنَبُ ، وَامْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، قَالَ : أَيُّ الزَّيَانِبِ ؟ قَالَ : امْرَأَةُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَامْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، لَهُمَا أَجْرَانِ : أَجْرُ الْقَرَابَةِ ، وَأَجْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ "
Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), the honorable wife of Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to give charity and said: “O assembly of women, give charity, even if it is from your jewelry.” She says that I used to spend on Abdullah and the children under my care, so I said to Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): Go and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) whether my spending on you will suffice for me as charity? He said: No, rather you yourself go and ask him. Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) says: So I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and sat at his door, because his noble personality was very awe-inspiring (no one dared to approach him directly). Then I saw an Ansari woman who had come to ask about a similar issue as mine. Then Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us, so we said: Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this issue, but do not tell him about us, who we are. So Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: Two women spend on their husbands and the children under their care; will this spending suffice for them as charity? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): “Who are these two women?” He replied: One is Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) and the other is an Ansari woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Which Zainab?” He replied: The honorable wife of Abdullah bin Mas’ud and an Ansari woman. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes (this spending will suffice for them as charity). They will have a double reward: one for kinship and the other for charity.”
Hadith 2464
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْمُصْطَلِقِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ امْرَأَةِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَانَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ بِالْمَسْجِدِ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا مَعْشَرَ النِّسَاءِ ، تَصَدَّقْنَ ، وَلَوْ مِنْ حُلِيِّكُنَّ " ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ نُمَيْرٍ مَعْنًى وَاحِدٍ
The respected wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Sayyidah Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her), narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us while we were in the mosque. He (peace be upon him) said: "O assembly of women, give charity, even if it is from your jewelry." Then a narration with the same meaning as that of Ibn Numair was mentioned.
