جماع أبواب صدقة التطوعChapters on Voluntary Charity
(148) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا فَضَّلَ صَدَقَةَ الْمُقِلِّ إِذَا كَانَ فَضْلًا عَمَّنْ يَعُولُ، وَلَا إِذَا تَصَدَّقَ عَلَى الْأَبَاعِدِ وَتَرَكَ مَنْ يَعُولُ جِيَاعًا
148 Subchapter: Prophet favored charity of the poor if surplus to dependents, not if given to strangers while dependents are left hungry
Hadith 2451
حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْغَافِقِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ ، أَنَّ أَبَا الزُّبَيْرِ ، حَدَّثَهُ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : " جَهْدُ الْمُقِلِّ ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he asked: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), which charity is the best? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied: "The charity given by a person of little means from his hard-earned money is the best, and begin by spending on those whose maintenance is your responsibility."
Hadith 2452
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , قَالَ : " إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَقِيرًا ، فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِنَفْسِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَعَلَى عِيَالِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَعَلَى قَرَابَتِهِ أَوْ ذِي رَحِمِهِ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فَضْلا فَهَا هُنَا وَهَاهُنَا "
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "When any one of you is in need and poor, he should first spend on himself. Then if any wealth remains, he should spend on his family. If wealth still remains, he should spend it on his close relatives. If after that there is still surplus wealth, he should distribute it among the needy here and there."
