(138) بَابُ فَضْلِ الصَّدَقَةِ عَنِ ظَهْرِ غِنًى يَفْضُلُ عَمَّنْ يَعُولُ الْمُتَصَدِّقُ
138 Subchapter: Charity from surplus wealth is better than from what one needs
Hadith 2439
حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا كَانَ عَنْ ظَهْرِ غِنًى ، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ " ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْرَ ، أَنَّ سَلامَةَ ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ سَوَاءً
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best charity is that which is given when one is wealthy. And begin (charity) by spending on your family."
Hadith 2440
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزَّعْرَاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ مَالِكُ بْنُ نَضْلَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الأَيْدِي ثَلاثَةٌ : فَيَدُ اللَّهِ الْعُلْيَا ، وَيَدُ الْمُعْطِي الَّتِي تَلِيهَا ، وَيَدُ السَّائِلِ السُّفْلَى ، فَأَعْطِ الْفَضْلَ ، وَلا تَعْجَزْ عَنْ نَفْسِكِ "
Sayyiduna Malik bin Nadalah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "There are three types of hands: Allah's Hand is the highest and most exalted. Beneath it is the hand of the one who gives charity, and the hand of the one who asks is the lowest of all. Therefore, whatever wealth remains (after spending on your family), give it in charity, and do not follow your soul (when it prevents you from giving charity)."
