جماع أبواب صدقة الفطر فى رمضانChapters on Zakat al-Fitr in Ramadan
(120) بَابُ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّهُمْ أُمِرُوا بِنِصْفِ صَاعِ حِنْطَةٍ إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ قِيمَةَ صَاعِ تَمْرٍ أَوْ شَعِيرٍ،
120 Subchapter: They were told to give half a sa’ of wheat if it equaled a sa’ of dates or barley
Hadith Q2407
وَالْوَاجِبُ عَلَى هَذَا الْأَصْلِ أَنْ يَتَصَدَّقَ بِآصِعٍ مِنْ حِنْطَةٍ فِي بَعْضِ الْأَزْمَانِ وَبَعْضِ الْبُلْدَانِ.
And what is obligatory according to this principle is to give charity of a measure (sa’) of wheat in some times and some lands.
Hadith 2407
حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ عِيَاضٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : " لَمْ نَزَلْ نُخْرِجُ عَلَى عَهْدِ الرَّسُولِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَاعًا مِنْ تَمْرٍ ، وَصَاعًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ، وَصَاعًا مِنْ أَقِطٍ ، فَلَمْ تَزَلْ حَتَّى كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ ، فَقَالَ : أَرَى إِنَّ صَاعًا مِنْ سَمْرَاءِ الشَّامِ تَعْدِلُ صَاعَيْ تَمْرٍ ، فَأَخَذَ بِهِ النَّاسُ "
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to give one sa' of dates, one sa' of barley, or one sa' of cheese (as zakat al-fitr). This practice continued after him until the era of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), when he said: "In my opinion, one sa' of wheat from Syria is equal to two sa' of dates." So the people began to give (half a sa' of wheat as zakat al-fitr) according to this opinion.
