(107) بَابُ كَرَاهَةِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ إِذَا كَانَ سَائِلُهَا وَاجِدًا غَدَاءً أَوْ عَشَاءً يُشْبِعُهُ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً، وَإِنْ كَانَ أَخْذُهُ لِلصَّدَقَةِ- مِنْ غَيْرِ مَسْأَلَةٍ- جَائِزًا
107 Subchapter: Dislike of asking for charity if one has enough food for a day and night, though taking without asking is allowed
Hadith 2391
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّفَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْكِينٌ الْحَذَّاءُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُهَاجِرِ ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ السَّلُولِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ سَأَلَ مَسْأَلَةً ، وَهُوَ يَجِدُ عَنْهَا غَنَاءً فَإِنَّمَا يَسْتَكْثِرُ مِنَ النَّارِ " ، قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَمَا الْغَنَاءُ الَّذِي لا يَنْبَغِي مَعَهُ الْمَسْأَلَةُ ؟ قَالَ : " أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ شِبَعُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ ، أَوْ لَيْلَةٍ وَيَوْمٍ " ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : وَلِلسُّؤَالِ أَبْوَابٌ كَثِيرَةٌ خَرَّجْتُهَا فِي كِتَابِ الْجَامِعِ
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hanzaliyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever begs while he is self-sufficient, then indeed he is only increasing the fire of Hell for himself." It was asked to you, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what is the amount of sufficiency after which begging is not permissible?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "If he has food for the day and night, or food for the night and day." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that there are many chapters regarding begging which I have already mentioned in the book Al-Jami'.
