Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no zakat on less than five camels, and when they reach fifteen camels, then until they become twenty, the zakat is three goats." Then the complete narration was mentioned. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And there is no zakat on less than five camels. Then when they become five, until they reach ten, the zakat is one goat. When there are ten camels, the zakat is two goats, until the number reaches fifteen. Then when they become fifteen, until they reach twenty, the zakat is three goats." Then the complete hadith was mentioned. When the camels increase, then for every fifty camels, the zakat is one hiqqah (a three-year-old she-camel). In the collection of zakat, an old or defective animal will not be taken, unless the collector wishes to take it, and he will count all the camels, both young and old. There is no zakat on less than forty goats. Then when there are forty goats, until they reach one hundred and twenty, the zakat is one goat. And when there is even one goat more than this number, then until they reach two hundred, the zakat is two goats. Then with one more goat, until three hundred, the zakat is three goats. And when the goats increase, then for every hundred goats, the zakat is one goat. An old or defective goat will not be taken, unless the collector wishes to take it, and he will count all the goats, both young and old. And animals will not be separated out of fear of zakat, nor will separate animals be gathered together."
