Hadith 2068
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ , حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ , عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ , عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنَّكَ وَاصِلُ ؟ ! قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدِكُمْ , إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي "
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Refrain from wisal (fasting continuously day and night without breaking the fast)." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you also observe wisal?" He (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, I am not like you. I spend the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."
Hadith 2069
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ يَعْنِي مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ , عَنْ قَتَادَةَ , عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ " . قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ . قَالَ : " إِنِّي أَبِيتُ أُطْعَمُ وَأُسْقَى "
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Refrain from continuous fasting (sawm wisal)." The Companions said, "O Messenger of Allah, you also observe continuous fasting." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I spend the night in such a state that food and drink are provided for me."
