Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that while I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a man came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have been ruined." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "May good come to you, what has happened to you?" He replied, "I had intercourse with my wife during Ramadan." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Free a slave." He said, "I do not have the ability to free a slave." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Fast for two consecutive months." He said, "I am not able to do that." The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered, "Feed sixty needy people." He said, "I do not have enough grain for that." Then a basket of dates was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), so he said, "Take this basket and give it as charity." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not find anyone more deserving of it than my own family. There is no one in the two sides of Madinah more in need of it than me." So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) laughed so much that his blessed canine teeth became visible. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Take it and seek forgiveness from Allah the Exalted."
