Hadith 1925
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُصَيْنٌ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ سورة البقرة آية 187 قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا ذَلِكَ بَيَاضُ النَّهَارِ مِنْ سَوَادِ اللَّيْلِ "
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when this verse « وَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يَتَبَيَّنَ لَكُمُ الْخَيْطُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الْأَسْوَدِ » [ سورة البقرة : 187 ] “And eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread,” was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, it is the distinction of the whiteness of the day from the darkness of the night.”
Hadith 1926
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، نا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْخَيْطُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الْخَيْطِ الأَسْوَدِ ؟ أَهُمَا الْخَيْطَانِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنَّكَ لَعَرِيضُ الْقَفَا ، أَرَأَيْتَ أَبْصَرْتَ الْخَيْطَيْنِ قَطُّ " ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لا بَلْ هُوَ سَوَادُ اللَّيْلِ وَبَيَاضُ النَّهَارِ "
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is meant by the black thread and the white thread? Are these two threads?” He (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, you are broad-necked.” Tell me, have you ever seen two threads? Then he said: “No, rather what is meant is the darkness of the night and the whiteness of the day.”
