Hadith 1919
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ ، نا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ ، نا حُصَيْنٌ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا لِلْعُمْرَةِ ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلْنَا بِبَطْنِ نَخْلَةَ رَأَيْنَا الْهِلالَ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ : هُوَ ابْنُ ثَلاثٍ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : هُوَ ابْنُ لَيْلَتَيْنِ . قَالَ : فَلَقِيَنَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقُلْنَا : رَأَيْنَا الْهِلالَ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ : هُوَ ابْنُ ثَلاثٍ ، وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ : هُوَ ابْنُ لَيْلَتَيْنِ . فَقَالَ : أَيَّ لَيْلَةٍ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ ؟ قُلْنَا : لَيْلَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا . فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَدَّهُ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ " فَهُوَ لِلَيْلَةِ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ
Abu Al-Bakhtari narrates that we set out to perform Umrah. When we stopped at the place of Batn Nakhlah, we saw the moon. Some people said that it was the moon of the third night, and some said that it was the moon of the second night. He says that we met Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), so we submitted to him that we saw the moon and some people said that it was the moon of the third night, and some said that it was the moon of the second night. So he asked, "On which night did you see it?" We replied, "We saw it on such and such night." So he said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Verily, Allah the Exalted has made it appear larger for the purpose of sighting. It is for the same night on which you saw it.'"
