Hadith 1890
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، نا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الزَّيَّاتِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ "
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "Fasting is a shield."
Hadith 1891
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، نا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، فَدَعَا بِلَبَنٍ لِيَسْقِيَهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنِّي صَائِمٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ ، كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ " قَالَ : " وَصِيَامٌ حَسَنٌ صِيَامُ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ "
Hazrat Mutarrif narrates that I was present in the service of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him), so he called for milk to be brought for me to drink. I said, "I am fasting." He said: "Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that 'Fasting is a shield from Hell just as a shield is for any one of you in battle.'" And he said: "The best fasting is to fast three days in every month."
