Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Harith that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) ordered the mu’adhdhin to give the adhan on the day of Jumu’ah with these words, and on that day it was raining. So he said « اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰه ». Then he told him to announce to the people that they should pray in their homes. So the people said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), “What is this that you have done?” He replied, “This was done by the one who is better and superior to me. Are you advising me to make people come out in such a state that they would walk through mud up to their knees?” This is the hadith of Ahmad bin Abadah. And Yusuf said that a man from the people of Basrah, Abdullah bin Harith, who is a relative by marriage of Imam Ibn Sirin, narrated that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said, “Should I make people come out of their homes and make them responsible for bringing mud from their paths into the mosque?”
