It is narrated from Iyad bin Abdullah bin Sa’d bin Abi Sarh that Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the mosque on Friday while Marwan bin Hakam was delivering the sermon. So Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and started praying (the two rak’ahs of Tahiyyat al-Masjid). Then Marwan’s guards came to make him sit down, but he refused to sit until he had completed his prayer. Then, when Marwan finished and left, we came to Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him, “May Allah have mercy on you, these people were about to treat you badly.” He replied, “After seeing the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I would never leave these two rak’ahs.” Then he explained that a man came in a very distressed state on Friday while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the companions to give charity to this man, but the companions did not have any clothes to give him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be given two garments, and he instructed him, so he performed two rak’ahs. Then he came the next Friday while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered charity to be given to him. So a man gave him one of his two sheets, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked him loudly and said, “Take your sheet back.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “This man entered the mosque in a state of severe distress, so I ordered the people to give charity to him, but they did not have any clothes, so I ordered that he be given two garments. Then today he came to the mosque, so I ordered charity to be given, and this man gave him one of his sheets.” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that man to perform two rak’ahs of prayer.
