Hadith 1743
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon every adult (who has reached puberty) to perform ghusl (ritual bath) on the day of Jumu'ah, and he should use the miswak and apply perfume according to his ability."
Hadith 1744
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon every adult person to perform ghusl on the day of Jumu'ah, and if he has perfume, he should apply it."
Hadith 1745
Amr bin Salim says that I bear witness that Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) bore witness regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon every adult person to perform ghusl (ritual bath) on the day of Jumu'ah, and that he should use the miswak, and if he has perfume available, he should apply it." Amr says: As for ghusl, I bear witness that it is obligatory, but regarding the use of miswak, I do not know whether it is obligatory or not, but our respected teacher narrated it to us in this manner.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory upon every adult." Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I do not deny that Muhammad bin Munkadir heard from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) the narration regarding the obligation of bathing only upon one who has had a wet dream, apart from applying perfume and using the miswak. Whereas, in the narration from his brother Abu Bakr bin Munkadir, from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), the obligation of bathing and applying oil is mentioned from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because Dawud bin Abi Hind narrated from Abu Zubair, from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon every Muslim to bathe one day in seven days, and that is the day of Friday."

Imam Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, after mentioning the chain of narration of Dawud bin Abi Hind, states that in this narration, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has mentioned using the miswak and applying perfume together with the command to perform ghusl on Friday. In this way, the Prophet (peace be upon him) has clarified that all three of these things are obligatory upon every adult. Miswak is a means of cleaning and purifying the mouth, and perfume is a means of removing unpleasant odors from the body and making it fragrant and pure. And we have not heard any Muslim say that using miswak and applying perfume on Friday is obligatory. And the command of ghusl is similar to these two. In other chapters, clear evidence will be cited to show that performing ghusl on Friday is not so obligatory that nothing else (such as wudu, etc.) would suffice without it.
