Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of the Battle of Khandaq, we were prevented from performing the prayer until, after some part of the night had passed following Maghrib, Allah sufficed us as He has said: « وَكَفَى اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْقِتَالَ ۚ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ قَوِيًّا عَزِيزًا » [ سورة الأحزاب : 25 ] "And in this battle, Allah was sufficient for the believers, and Allah is Powerful and Mighty." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the iqamah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Zuhr prayer in his best manner, as he used to perform it. Then he gave the iqamah for Asr, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Asr prayer in the same manner. Then he gave the iqamah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Maghrib prayer in the same way. Then the iqamah was given, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Isha prayer in the same way. And this incident occurred before the command regarding the prayer of fear was revealed, that is, « فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ فَرِجَالًا أَوْ رُكْبَانًا » [ سورة البقرة : 39 ] "Pray while walking or riding"—before the revelation of this command. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I have already narrated in the previous pages of this book the narration about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the Fajr prayer after sunrise, on the night when (during travel) all the companions, including the Prophet, slept until sunrise. This hadith is also related to this chapter.
