(183) بَابُ التَّغْلِيظِ فِي قِيَامِ الْمَأْمُومِ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخَّرِ إِذَا كَانَ خَلْفَهُ نِسَاءٌ، إِذَا أَرَادَ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهِنَّ، أَوْ إِلَى بَعْضِهِنَّ،
183| Chapter on the stern warning for a follower standing in the back row behind women if he intends to look at them
Hadith 1696
نا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَهْضَمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا نُوحٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ قَيْسٍ الْحُدَّانِيَّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْجَوْزَاءِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ تُصَلِّي خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ امْرَأَةٌ حَسْنَاءُ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ ، فَكَانَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ يَتَقَدَّمُ فِي الصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ لِئَلا يَرَاهَا ، وَيَسْتَأْخِرُ بَعْضُهُمْ حَتَّى يَكُونَ فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُؤَخِّرِ ، فَإِذَا رَكَعَ نَظَرَ مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطِهِ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي شَأْنِهَا : وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ سورة الحجر آية 24 "
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that among the most beautiful people, there was a very attractive and beautiful woman who used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So some people would pray in the front rows so that they would not see her, and some people would stay behind so that they would be in the back rows. Then, when they would bow (in ruku‘), they would look at her from under their armpits. So Allah Almighty revealed this verse about this matter: « وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ » [ سورة الحجر : 24 ] "And surely We know those among you who go forward and We know those who lag behind."
وَالدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمُصَلِّيَ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَى مَنْ خَلْفَهُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ لَمْ يُفْسِدْ ذَلِكَ الْفِعْلُ صَلَاتَهُ.
And the evidence that if the one praying looks at the women behind him, that action does not invalidate his prayer.
Hadith 1696
وَالدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الْمُصَلِّيَ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَى مَنْ خَلْفَهُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ لَمْ يُفْسِدْ ذَلِكَ الْفِعْلُ صَلَاتَهُ.

Hadith 1697
نا أَبُو مُوسَى ، نا نُوحُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ الْحُدَّانِيُّ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِهَذَا الْمَعْنَى . نا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ، نا نُوحٌ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، بِنَحْوِهِ
The Imam, through his teacher Abu Musa’s chain of narration, reports a narration with the same meaning as mentioned above.
