Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that he spent the night at the house of his maternal aunt, Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). He says: I lay down across the width of the pillow, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family lay down along the length of the pillow. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) slept until half the night had passed, or a little before or after half the night, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up. He sat up and wiped his blessed face with his hands, then recited the last ten verses of Surah Aal-e-Imran. Then he went to a hanging water-skin and performed a most excellent ablution from it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood and began to pray. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: So I stood by his side. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his right hand on my head and took hold of my right ear and gently twisted it. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak‘ahs, then two light rak‘ahs, then he went and performed the morning prayer. This is the narration of Rabee’.
