Hadith 1652

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا
حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ
هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ
أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ
عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الأَرْقَمِ كَانَ يُسَافِرُ ، فَيَصْحَبُهُ قَوْمٌ يَقْتَدُونَ بِهِ ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ يُؤَذِّنُ لأَصْحَابِهِ وَيَؤُمُّهُمْ ، قَالَ : فَنُودِيَ بِالصَّلاةِ يَوْمًا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : يَؤُمُّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْخَلاءَ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِالْخَلاءِ "
Sayyiduna Urwah narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Arqam used to travel, and people would accompany him and follow him in prayer. He would give the adhan for his companions and also lead them in prayer. He says that one day, the adhan was called for prayer, so he said, "Let one of you lead the congregation, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'When any of you needs to relieve himself and the prayer is established, he should relieve himself first.'"
