(120) بَابُ النَّهْيِ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الْمَأْمُومِ قَائِمًا خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ قَاعِدًا.
120| Chapter on the prohibition of the follower praying standing behind a sitting imam
Hadith 1615
نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، نا جَرِيرٌ ، وَوَكِيعٌ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِجَرِيرٍ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ : رَكِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَسًا بِالْمَدِينَةِ ، فَصَرَعَهُ عَلَى جِذْمِ نَخْلَةٍ ، فَانْفَكَّتْ قَدَمُهُ ، فَأَتَيْنَاهُ نَعُودُهُ ، فَوَجَدْنَاهُ فِي مَشْرُبَةٍ لِعَائِشَةَ يُسَبِّحُ جَالِسًا ، فَقُمْنَا خَلْفَهُ ، وَأَشَارَ إِلَيْنَا ، فَقَعَدْنَا ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلاةَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا صَلَّى الإِمَامُ جَالِسًا ، فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا ، وَإِذَا صَلَّى الإِمَامُ قَائِمًا ، فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا ، وَلا تَفْعَلُوا كَمَا تَفْعَلُ أَهْلُ فَارِسَ بِعُظَمَائِهَا "
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rode a horse in Madinah Munawwarah, and it threw him onto a date-palm trunk, which caused a sprain in his foot. So we came to visit him for his care, and we found him in the room of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) performing voluntary prayers while sitting. So we stood behind him (to join the prayer). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to us to sit, so we sat down. Then, when he completed the prayer, he said: "When the Imam leads the prayer sitting, you should also pray sitting, and when the Imam leads the prayer standing, you should also pray standing. And do not do as the Persians do with their kings and leaders."
