(43) بَابُ النَّهْيِ عَنْ قِيَامِ الْإِمَامِ عَلَى مَكَانٍ أَرْفَعَ مِنَ الْمَأْمُومِينَ إِذَا لَمْ يُرِدْ تَعْلِيمَ النَّاسِ
43| Prohibition of the imam standing on a higher place than the congregation if not for teaching
Hadith 1523
نا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمُرَادِيُّ ، عَنِ الشَّافِعِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ هَمَّامٍ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى بِنَا حُذَيْفَةُ عَلَى دُكَّانٍ مُرْتَفِعٍ ، فَسَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَجَبَذَهُ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ، فَتَابَعَهُ حُذَيْفَةُ ، فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلاةَ قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ : " أَلَيْسَ قَدْ نُهِيَ عَنْ هَذَا ؟ " فَقَالَ لَهُ حُذَيْفَةُ : " أَلَمْ تَرَنِي قَدْ تَابَعْتُكَ ؟ "
Humam narrates that Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in prayer on a high platform (shop), while the people were standing below. He performed prostration on it, so Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) pulled him (by his garment). Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), complying with his words, came down. Then when the prayer was completed, Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Has it not been forbidden to do so?” So Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, “Did you not see that I obeyed you (and came down to prostrate)?”
