Hadith Q1511
In this regard, the hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him): "The one who is the best reciter of the Qur'an among them should lead the people in prayer," is evidence that a freed slave, if he is more proficient and skilled in reciting the Qur'an than a Qurayshi person, has a greater right to lead the prayer.
Hadith 1511
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Muhajirun arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, they settled on one side of Quba. When the time for prayer came, Sayyiduna Salim (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), led them in prayer, because he had memorized the most Qur'an among them. Among those Muhajirun were also such eminent Companions as Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab and Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Asad (may Allah be pleased with them both). This hadith is from Ahmad bin Sinan.
