(656) بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِالصَّدَقَةِ عِنْدَ كُسُوفِ الشَّمْسِ
656| Command to give charity at the solar eclipse
Hadith 1398
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَصَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَقَالَ فِي آخِرِهِ : ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لا تَخْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلا لِحَيَاتِهِ ، وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلاةِ " . وَهَذَا قَوْلُ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : وَزَادَ فِيهِ هِشَامٌ : " إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَتَصَدَّقُوا ، وَصَلُّوا "
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that during the blessed era of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a solar eclipse, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) led the people in prayer, then narrated the complete hadith. At the end, these words are narrated: Then when the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon do not eclipse due to the death or life of any person, but both are two signs among the signs of Allah. Therefore, when you see an eclipse, hasten towards prayer." Imam Zuhri says that in this, Hisham has added: "When you see an eclipse, give charity and perform prayer."
Hadith 1399
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَزْهَرِ ، وَكَتَبْتُهُ مِنْ أَصْلِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُؤَدِّبِ ، حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحٌ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ زَمَانَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ ، وَقَالَ : " فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلاةِ ، وَإِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ، وَالصَّدَقَةِ "
Sayyidah Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that during the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), there was a solar eclipse. Then she narrated a lengthy hadith and said: "Therefore, when you see an eclipse, hasten towards prayer, remember Allah, and give charity and alms."
Hadith 1400
نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، نَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الأُوَيْسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ كَسَفَتْ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَظَنَّ النَّاسُ أَنَّهَا كَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِهِ ، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لا يَكْسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلا لِحَيَاتِهِ ، فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَافْزَعُوا إِلَى الصَّلاةِ ، وَإِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَادْعُوا وَتَصَدَّقُوا "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the sun was eclipsed on the day when the beloved son of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), passed away. So the people thought that the eclipse of the sun occurred because of his death. Thereupon, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up (to address the people) and said: "O people, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone's death or life. Therefore, when you see an eclipse, hasten to perform prayer, rush towards the remembrance of Allah, make supplication, and give charity."
